Boston Fire Department’s respond to the 10th fire in the last six months in the Oak Tree Community. Local bakery owners of “Baking Boston”, Jennie and James Henderson, along with their 15-year-old son were rushed to the Hillcrest Hospital after sustaining injuries from a fire that broke out at their home at 4:55 a.m. Monday morning. The family has reported to be in good health. The fire department arrived at the scene at 5:07 a.m. and worked for two hours to put out the flames. Fire Chief Rick Ramirez confirmed that after an investigation of the home it was determined the cause of the fire was due to a dryer malfunction. Ramirez found that there were five smoke alarms all of which were not working properly.
The fire at the Henderson home has been reported as the tenth fire within the past six months. Out of the 10 fires, seven of them either did not have a smoke alarm or the alarms were not working properly. Ramirez says: “Not having smoke alarms is a very common occurrence, over the course of my career, I’ve dealt with 10 similar cases. That is why on Saturdays we will hold fire safety classes that are free and open to the community.” The Henderson’s family dog, Jackie, has not been found yet after running away from the fire. She is a yellow lab and collie mix. There has been a GoFundMe page created to raise money for the family so they can replace their belongings lost in the fire.
